Everett, WA - Everett Silvertips forward Kyle Beach was honored by the Western Hockey League as the 2006-2007 recipient of the Jim Piggott Trophy as the WHL Rookie of the Year at the WHL Awards Luncheon in Calgary, AB on Wednesday afternoon. For the Silvertips, it is the second year in a row an Everett player has won the Jim Piggott Trophy. Last season, Silvertips forward Peter Mueller took home WHL Rookie of the Year honors.

Kyle Beach had a phenomenal rookie season with the Silvertips by leading all 16 year olds in the WHL in scoring with 29 goals and 32 assists for 61 points in 65 games. The Kelowna, BC native finished first among all WHL rookies in plus/minus (+27), second in power play goals (18) and tied for second in game winning goals (6) during the 2006-2007 regular season. Beach led the Silvertips in plus/minus (+27) and game winning goals (6) while finishing third on the hockey club in goals scored with 29 tallies.

During the 2007 WHL Playoffs, Beach finished tied for second on the Silvertips in scoring with 5 goals and 6 assists in 11 playoff games. The Silvertips first round selection in the 2005 WHL Bantam Draft, also received the Everett Silvertips Rookie of the Year Award at the conclusion of the 2006-2007 regular season. Kyle, who will be eligible for the 2008 NHL Entry Draft also suited up for Team BC at the 2007 Canada Winter Games.

Silvertips forward Zach Hamill also received the Bobby Clarke Trophy as the leading scorer in the WHL during the 2006-2007 regular season. The Port Coquitlam, BC native tallied 32 goals and a league high 61 assists for 93 points in 69 games. With Beach and Hamill taking home WHL awards, the Silvertips have won four WHL individual awards in franchise history. After the 2003-2004 season, Silvertips Head Coach Kevin Constantine was the winner of the Dunc McCallum Memorial Trophy award as the WHL Coach of the Year, while last season, Peter Mueller took home the Jim Piggott Trophy as the WHL Rookie of the Year.

The Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy is presented each year to the WHL's top rookie player based on balloting conduct by the leagues General Managers and Head Coaches. The award is named after Jim Piggott who was the founder of the WHL's Saskatoon Blades, as well as one of the first presidents of the league.
