Comeback 'Tips Shoot Down Rockets, 5-4
Tyler Maxwell nets his team leading eighth goal
Everett Silvertips Press Release
Everett, WA - Everett defeated the Kelowna Rockets 5-4 Saturday night at Prospera Place to extend their win streak to four games. Shane Harper had three assists on the night to extend his point streak to seven games. Harper has five goals and 11 assists in that seven game span. Tyler Maxwell scored for the fourth straight game, leading the Silvertips with eight goals this season. Chris Langkow played in his 200th career WHL game Saturday night. Radko Gudas continues to lead the league in plus/minus at a +16 through eight games, Ryan Murray sits at third in the league with a +14.
It took 49 seconds for Kelowna's Stepan Novotny to put up the first goal of the night on the power play, firing a blast from the right circle past Thomas Heemskerk for the 1-0 lead. Maxwell answered at 10:19 by collecting a rebound off an Alex Theriau slap shot to tie the game 1-1. The Rockets regained the lead shorthanded as Collin Bowman one timed a faceoff win from Kyle St. Denis at 14:02.
St. Denis put the Rockets up by two early in the second period with a five on three goal at 2:48. Radko Gudas brought the Silvertips within one, when he banked a shot off the crossbar and in with a wrist shot at 6:55. Shane McColgan gave the Rockets another two goal lead off a deflection at 2:30. Markus McCrea made the score 4-3 on a beautiful tic-tac-toe play from Harper and Chris Langkow at 16:25.
Trailing 4-3 entering the third period, Everett tied the game up at 8:29. Harper drove down the left wing and behind the net where he dished the puck to Cameron Abney who one-timed the puck past Kelowna goalie Adam Brown. Late in the third period Kellan Tochkin took a feed from Byron Froese and put it past Brown on the power play to seal the late comeback win 5-4.
This brings the 'Tips record to 6-2-0-0 with 12 points in 8 games played. Everett gets four days rest before heading up to Vancouver to take on the Giants at 7:30 pm this Friday.
