Everett's Third Period Rally Stuns Vancouver
Gudas' two third period goals put Everett ahead
Everett Silvertips Press Release
Vancouver, B.C. - The Everett Silvertips took home their first two points of the 2009-2010 season Saturday night with a 4-2 victory in Vancouver. Radko Gudas collected his first two points, both of which were goals, for the Silvertips, leading the scoring charge for the night. Shane Harper put together a three point effort (1G, 2A) while linemate Zack Dailey had a strong two point performance (2A). Tyler Maxwell finished off the scoring for the Silvertips while Ryan Murray and Rasmus Rissanen collected an assist each. Thomas Heemskerk collected his first win of the season with a 19 save performance. Prior to tonight in the previous three seasons, Vancouver, when leading after two periods, had a record of 122-1-2-6.
Vancouver stepped out with the game's first goal of the night from Craig Cunningham on the power play. A hard wrist shot from the left circle beat Heemskerk glove side at 8:11 giving the Giants the early 1-0 advantage. The Giants outshot Everett 10-9 through 20 minutes of play.
Continuing their momentum from the first period, Mike Piluso scored after dishing the puck in front of the net and getting a beneficial bounce off an Everett defender past Heemskerk at 4:17. The 'Tips responded shortly thereafter when Harper scored his first goal of the season when his wraparound beat Vancouver goalie Jamie Tucker at 6:38, bringing Everett within one.
Everett was able to tie the game when Gudas pottes his first goal as an Everett Silvertip at 3:18 with a strong wrist shot from the point after an Everett screen in front of the net. At 15:32 Gudas struck again just after an Everett power play. Dailey and Harper showed great work down low drawing defenders down before feeding Gudas the puck for a top right circle shot, beating Tucker for the 3-2 lead. Maxwell put home the empty net goal at 19:51 to seal Everett's first win of the '09-'10 season.
This brings the 'Tips record to 1-1-0-0 with 2 points in 2 games played. Everett now has the week to prepare for their home opener against Vancouver this Saturday at 7:00 pm.
