Froese scores twice and adds an assist; Simpson stops 29 for second career win
Everett Silvertips Press Release
Everett, WA - The Everett Silvertips won their third straight, defeating the Kamloops Blazers 5-2. Byron Froese had three points on the night (2G, 1A). Zack Dailey and Kellan Tochkin combined for four points (4A), while Kent Simpson won his second career game in just his third start. Everett remains in third place in the U.S. Division with thirteen points and a record of 6-4-1-0 and will travel to Tri-City and Seattle next weekend.
It didn't take long for the Silvertips to get on the scoreboard. At the 4:12 mark of the first Period, Byron Froese scored his second goal of the season after a beautiful deflection on top of the crease from a Jeff Regier shot from the point. The Silvertips capitalized soon after on their first power play of the game, after a cross checking penalty on Kamloops Defenseman Nick Ross. Daniel Bartek made a great pass from the goal line to Chris de la Lande on the point. De la Lande scored on the man advantage after a quick low wrist shot from the point making the score 2-0 Everett to end the 1st period.
Everett Goaltender Kent Simpson, in his third start of the season, continued to stop point blank shots in front of the crease to keep Everett up by two. Feeding off of Simpson's strong play Everett responded after some brilliant stick handling by Zack Dailey on a 2 on 2. Dailey crossed through the slot bringing both Kamloops defensemen with him and feeding a wide open Jesse Burt back door for Everett's 3rd goal of the night.
On a delayed Kamloops penalty, Byron Froese put home his second goal of the night going top shelf on a puck lying on top of the Kamloops crease making the score 4-0. The game started to get out of hand as six fighting majors were handed out in the last 10 minutes of the second period. Kamloops scored their first goal of the night on the power play. After a scrum in front of the net Kamloops right winger Kenton Dulle scored his fifth goal of the season making the score 4-1 ending the 2nd period.
Entering the 3rd period with a three goal deficit the Kamloops Blazers put pressure on the Silvertips. At the 8:57 mark of the 3rd, Kamloops put home their 2nd goal of the night. Giffen Nyren scored his first goal of the season after a scrum in front of the net, making the score 4-2. Everett capitalized soon after on a five on three power play at 13:54 of the 3rd. Matthew Ius scored his third goal of the season on a deflection off a shot from Froese to make the score 5-2 in favor of the Silvertips and giving Everett their third straight win. Kent Simpson stopped 29 shots for his 2nd win of the season.
