OIL KINGS DROP REBELS – Curtis Lazar scored a hat trick to help the Edmonton Oil Kings to a 6-2 win over the visiting Red Deer Rebels in Western Hockey League action on Sunday.

Michael St. Croix scored twice and added an assist and Klarc Wilson also counted for the Oil Kings (2-0-0-0), who claim their second straight win to open the season.  Laurent Brossoit turned aside 18 of 20 shots to claim his second victory of the season.

Cory Millette and Chad Robinson scored for the Rebels (0-2-0-0), who were outshot 53-20 as they suffer their second straight defeat.  Patrik Bartosak stopped 47 of 53 shots he faced in a losing cause.

COUGARS 7, SILVERTIPS 6  S/O

Jordan Tkatch scored the winner in the seventh round of a shootout to lift the visiting Prince George Cougars to a 7-6 win over the Everett Silvertips on Sunday.

Daulton Siwak – with a pair of goals – Daniel Gibb, Alex Forsberg, Marc McNulty and Caleb Belter scored in regulation for the Cougars (2-0-0-0), who roared back from a 6-3 deficit in the third period to force overtime.  Brett Zarowney made 33 saves in regulation and denied four of seven ‘Tips’ shootout chances to record his second win in as many nights.

Landon Oslanski scored twice and set up another while Josh Winquist – with two goals – Kohl Bauml and Ryan Murray also scored for the Silvertips (0-1-0-1), who suffer their second loss in two nights to the visiting Cougars.  Cole Holowenko made 32 saves in regulation and overtime, but was beaten four times in the shootout to take the loss.

WINTERHAWKS 4, AMERICANS 2

Nicholas Petan scored his third and fourth goals of the season to help the visiting Portland Winterhawks double up the Tri-City Americans 4-2 on Sunday.

Chase De Leo also scored twice and Troy Rutkowski picked up three assists for the Winterhawks (2-1-0-0), who went 2-for-4 on the power play.  Brendan Burke stopped 24 of 26 shots to claim his first win of the season.

Lucas Nickles and Mitch Topping scored for the Americans (0-2-0-0), who suffer their second straight setback to open the season.  Eric Comrie turned in a 35-save effort in the defeat.
