EVERETT – Silvertips training camp continued Friday with four scrimmages sessions at the Comcast Community Ice Rink in downtown Everett. Each scrimmage featured two 25-minute (running clock) halves. Friday's schedule was changed from the initial release, replacing the morning practice sessions with two more scrimmages in addition to the afternoon scrimmages.
Friday began with the Green Team facing the Blue Team, who was looking to rebound from Thursday's rough outing against Red. Blue jumped out to the early shot advantage, but the first half ended scoreless. The teams traded second half goals before eventually finishing in a 3-3 tie. Scoring for Blue came from Zach McPhee, Thomas Plese and Griffin Foulk, while Green countered with goals from Braeden Allkins, Jan Tesarek and Miles Manson.
The second morning scrimmage pitted the Grey Team against Thursday's dominant-looking Red group. Grey jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held it the rest of the way, winning by a 6-2 final tally. 1995-born forward Matt Chamberlain scored three times for Grey, while Carson Stadnyk (1g/1a) and Cole MacDonald (1g/1a) had two points apiece. Dawson Leedahl (1g/1a) was in on both Red goals in the losing cause.
Green looked to stay unbeaten in the afternoon against Red, but a tight contest was tied at two after the first half. Red got first half goals from Noah Juulsen and Matti Jmaeff and then took an early second half lead when Manraj Hayer scored. Tye Hand and Aaron Aragon netted first-half goals for Green, who trailed by a goal with the second half winding down. Tre Potskin scored for Green with three minutes remaining and then set up Braeden Allkins' goal :30 seconds later, lifting the first-place Green squad to a 4-3 victory and hand Red its second-straight loss.
Still trying for their first win of the tournament, the Blue team came out strong against Grey in the last scrimmage of the day with first-half goals from Luke Gordon and Ty Mappin. In the second half, Thomas Plese extended the lead and Mappin scored his second goal of the tournament as Blue finished out the 4-0 win. Kiernan Matsuba and Mario Petit combined to make 22 saves and earn the shutout in goal for Blue. Mappin (2g) and Gordon (1g/1a) each had multiple points for Blue in the win.
The winner of first place in the training camp tournament will be awarded the first Silvertips Volunteer Cup - which will now recognize a different person who has helped contribute to the rich history of the Silvertips franchise each year. This year's Volunteer Cup will be presented in honor of former Silvertips Public Address Announced Dave Piland, who passed away from cancer in September 2007.
Training Camp Standings through Friday:
