Silvertips Name 2012-13 Captains

EVERETT – The Everett Silvertips today announced four players who will serve as Captains for the team during the 2012-13 WHL season.  Wearing the Captain’s “C” for a third consecutive season is defenseman Ryan Murray, who will be joined by alternate Captains Cody Fowlie, Ryan Harrison and Manraj Hayer.  The three newly-named alternates replace Josh Birkholz, Brennan Yadlowski and Josh Caron, each of whom wore an “A” for the ‘Tips last year as an overager.

Murray, who turns 19 next week, recently returned to the Silvertips for his fourth season with the club.  He has served as Captain since assuming the role as a 17-year-old during Landon Ferraro’s injury absence midway through the 2010-11 season.  Selected second overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, the White City, Saskatchewan native was expected to start the season with the Columbus Blue Jackets before a labor dispute postponed the start of the NHL preseason.  Murray has been named team MVP in each of the last two seasons.

Fowlie, 20, is back for his third season in Everett and first as a Captain in 2012-13.  He was the only player to appear in all 72 games for the Silvertips last season, more than doubling his previous offensive output in the process.  Hailing from Airdrie, Alberta, Fowlie scored 14 goals and added 26 assists for a total of 40 points along with 68 penalty minutes a year ago.

Harrison, 20, returns for a third year with the ‘Tips after coming over from Medicine Hat at the trade deadline in 2010-11.  The Kelowna, British Columbia native was Everett’s second-leading scorer last season with 20 goals and 32 assists for a total of 52 points.  He also recorded 103 penalty minutes and a +5 rating, good enough for second on the team as well.

Hayer, 19, also embarks on a third season in green and silver after last year’s injury-shortened campaign.  A series of ailments limited Hayer to only 18 games in 2011-12, during which he scored five goals and added three assists.  Fully healthy coming into this season, the Vancouver, British Columbia product had a strong preseason and is looking forward to a comeback year.

The Silvertips open the 2012-13 WHL regular season Saturday night at 7:05 pm in front of their home fans at Comcast Arena.  The ‘Tips will drop the puck on their 10th Anniversary season with two games this weekend against the Prince George Cougars – the same team they faced in their inaugural home game in 2003.  Everett and Prince George will also meet on Sunday afternoon at 5:05 pm at Comcast Arena.

Season tickets, mini-game packages and single-game tickets for the Silvertips' 10th Anniversary season at Comcast Arena are on sale now.  For more information call 425-252-5100.  To keep up with all the latest team news and information, “like” the Everett Silvertips Hockey Club on Facebook or follow @WHLSilvertips on Twitter.
